Rubber Band Ligation for Haemorrhoids
Outpatient treatment for internal haemorrhoids
Rubber band ligation, also known as haemorrhoid banding, is a commonly used treatment for internal haemorrhoids.
During the procedure, a small rubber band is placed around the base of the haemorrhoid. This stops its blood supply, causing the treated tissue to shrink and separate naturally over the following days.
Banding is generally performed as an outpatient procedure. Some patients experience temporary pressure or discomfort afterwards. Your specialist will explain the expected recovery, possible risks and steps you can take to reduce constipation and recurrence.
