Botox Injections for Anal Fissures. A minimally invasive treatment for persistent anal fissures

Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, may be used to treat a chronic anal fissure that has not healed with conservative treatment.

The injection temporarily relaxes the internal anal sphincter muscle. This reduces muscle spasm, improves blood flow to the affected area and gives the fissure an opportunity to heal.

The effects are temporary, and healing cannot be guaranteed. Some patients may require another injection or an alternative procedure. Your colorectal surgeon will assess your symptoms, confirm the diagnosis and explain the benefits, limitations and possible side effects.
