Anal skin tags are small, soft folds of skin around the anus. They are usually harmless but may cause irritation, itching or difficulty keeping the area clean.
Skin tags can develop following haemorrhoids, an anal fissure, inflammation or previous swelling. As other anal conditions can sometimes resemble a skin tag, a specialist examination is recommended before considering removal.
Treatment is not always necessary. If a skin tag is causing persistent discomfort, hygiene problems or concern, our colorectal specialists can discuss whether removal is appropriate.
